LE CIRQUE DU CIEL

For our first collaboration with Hermes India I was inspired by the universe of Alexander Calder’s circus. I was fascinated by the movements and simplicity of form with wire and decided to add a touch of fabric. The idea that we could create a circus in the sky at different times of day or on a tornado amused me. I really wanted to keep the twists and disproportions we find in circus folks.

We have an elephant balancing act on a tornado with spinning plates

A Ballerina on a cloud spinning plates whilst a dog makes it rain

A tightrope walker with his head in the clouds

A Flying trapeze artist at dawn

A Horse canon ball in the night

A unicyclist in an Electric storm

BREAKING FREE

A carousel rider’s journey

In a decomposing symphony a Rider dismounts his horse to explore what’s beyond.

The piano keys take him to a flying mobile on which he mounts a new horse

He arrives through the windows of a strange castle where a Hobby horse king sits on his throne

He parachutes himself through the chimney of a wonky dollhouse where his fellow riders are having a tea party.

PLEIN AIR DESIGN

HERMÈS PLEIN AIR, the French word for outdoors.

In the 20’s, Hermès was one of the first brands to introduce a sporty spirit for women. Emile Hermès created specific outfits for his daughters who were fond of Tennis.

I am sharing the 3Ds of the designs that were rejected by the Hermes teams as they wanted to drift away from the theme of sports. These were based on the motion of Freedom and an Hommage to the sport.

RAMADAN LIGHTNESS OF FORM 2022

Our story this year is a metaphor of the change our hearts undergo during Ramadan. It opens up, changes and flies.

True to the theme of lightness, we explore the lightness of form in a minimalistic décor.

The story starts in a modern Arabic house where at night the architecture has intriguing shapes that seem to want to flap out. Through the windows shadows of flowers are growing.

The house doesn’t really look like a house anymore. It morphs into  some kind of architectural bird. The flowers have now revealed themselves and start growing from the ground.

It’s a Falcon that flies off from the last structure leaving the ground. He flies towards the moon whilst many others too. The flowers have grown and carry remains of the house. They seem to be anchored by the tiling of where the house used to be as if to stop them from flying too.

PLEIN AIR SPRING PERFUME WINDOWS

Hermès Plein Air conveys a certain idea of freedom, simplicity, movement and well-being. In these paper lasered windows we depict the sea and beaches of the Somme.

CHRISTMAS ODYSSEY

Festive Winter Perfume Windows

For the perfume windows of the Mall of the Emirates this year is all about paper cutouts and the traditional story of father christmas in his sleigh getting our presnets from the northpole to deliver them wherever we are. I liked to design these and have a nice mix between the western codes of Xmas with a more arabic and modern touch in the northpole. A real Dubai style story.

TREASURE PODS

Winter 2021 for The Human Odyssey I imagined a world where humans would be able to make themselves very small and build Pods to look like animals and infiltrate secret worlds. I loved the possible section from land to water and how both universes can be shown in a single tableau.
